ODT-109 SHALY SAND ANALYSIS

This class provides an overview of Shaly Sand Analysis. By the end of the course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the differences between shaly sands and clean sands

  2. Understand the clay as mineral and shale as lithology

  3. Predict how clay is distributed in reservoir rocks using Thomas-Stieber approach

  4. Describe the effects of clay occurrence on wireline logs responses

  5. Integrate core data and other information to support the analysis

  6. Calculate Volume of Shale using different methods

  7. Describe the nature of Shaly Sand models: Waxman-Smits, Dual-Water, Simandoux, etc.

  8. Understand assumptions used in porosity and saturation calculations, compute porosity and water saturations (SWT, SWE, SXO) using shaly sand models

  9. Generate Reservoir and Pay Summary
